What is the Text Compare?

Paste two versions of a document, list or code and see which lines were added, removed or left the same. You can ignore differences in spacing and capital letters.

How it works

How to use the Text Compare

3 simple steps. No experience needed.

What can you use it for?

  • Check what changed between two drafts.
  • Compare two versions of a config file or code snippet.
  • Spot differences between two lists.

How to read the result

Lines that exist only in the new text are marked as added, lines that exist only in the original are marked as removed, and everything else is unchanged. When a line was edited, you'll see the old version removed and the new version added right next to each other.

Ignoring changes that don't matter

Turn on “Ignore spacing” when text was re-indented or re-wrapped, and “Ignore capitals” when only the letter case changed. That leaves just the edits you actually care about.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does it compare word by word?

It compares line by line. A changed line shows as the old line removed and the new line added.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The comparison runs on your device.

Can I compare code?

Yes. Any plain text works — code, config files, CSV rows or document drafts. It compares line by line, the way code review tools do.
