UUID vs GUID
They're the same thing. GUID is Microsoft's name for a UUID. Both are 128-bit identifiers written as 32 hexadecimal characters, usually in five hyphen-separated groups.
When to use version 4
Version 4 UUIDs are completely random, so they reveal nothing about when or where they were created. They're ideal for database keys, file names and request IDs.
